2024 - 2025 Membership

September 2024

Dear Portland BEC Members,

We hope you’ve all had a great summer and are enjoying this heat wave that may be the last hurrah of the season as we approach fall. With students now back in schools, your Portland Building Enclosure Council follows suit with our regular education sessions starting next week with our kick-off meeting on Tuesday, September 10 and extending monthly through June 2025.

We’re planning a great lineup of presentations and building tours covering topics such as Building Science 101, solar roofing, discussion on fenestration systems, NFPA 285, thermal performance of existing buildings, sheet metal usage and selection, enclosure requirements in LEEDv5, and building enclosure historic preservation. As we have done in previous years, we are inviting local speakers and those from various regions of the country to provide some variety in research and opinions in building enclosure solutions.

Over the last few years, our meetings have been of a hybrid nature with online and in-person options being offered. While we are still providing the online option, we would LOVE to see your smiling and inquisitive faces during our meetings in the Billy Frank Conference Center on the second floor of the Ecotrust Building. For those of you who are veterans of our pre-Covid meetings, you likely recall how your attendance helped spark conversations with other members, our speakers and, of course, our lunch sponsors! Ecotrust has a great space with plenty of room, so please come join us in person to further strengthen our connected community!

As we have been for nearly two decades, the Portland BEC is a Non-Profit organization officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization by the IRS. The organization relies on your membership dues to pay for its operational costs such as room rental, insurance, and expenses for out-of-state speakers. Please take the time to renew your membership dues which, notably, have remained static for many, many years. We are very thankful for your continued support and participation and trust that you see the value that your membership and participation offers.

As always, we welcome any members who would like to participate on our Education Committee to help shape the topics and presentations. Those who are interested can discuss participation further with any of our Board or Education Committee members at our monthly education meetings. There are usually several of us in attendance so please come and chat.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me. On behalf of our Board and Education Committee members, we look forward to seeing you at a future meeting.

Regards,
Ken Roko, AIA
President
